Can a jazz band play outside?
Yes, with a few conditions. Keyboards, amps and drums need protection from sun and rain.
Yes. Outdoors, Dream City Jazz needs full shade from a tent or a big leafy tree, plus a power outlet near the band. We play best between about 55 and 92 degrees. Anything more than a drizzle and the music stops while the gear is covered or packed.

The outdoor rules
- Full shade. A tent or a big leafy tree. Partial shade that moves with the sun isn't enough.
- Power. A power outlet near the band, outdoors too. The keyboard and amps need it.
- Rain. Anything more than a drizzle and the music stops. We cover or pack the gear.
- Temperature. Best between about 55 and 92 degrees.
Have a backup plan
Weather changes, so plan an indoor or covered spot the band can move to. One Delavan wedding moved from outside to inside in the middle of the band's performance. The couple still wrote that the band was fantastic and set a perfect tone for the end of the ceremony and the cocktail reception.
When you pick the backup spot, check the same basics as outside: space for the band and a power outlet nearby. What the band needs from your venue.
Outdoor events in Wisconsin and Colorado
The outdoor rules are the same in both states. Give the band full shade, an outlet and a backup spot, and keep an eye on the forecast in the days before. If the temperature looks like it will be outside the 55 to 92 degree range, talk with us about moving the music inside or under cover.
In Colorado, full shade matters just as much as it does in Wisconsin. Dream City Jazz now books Denver and the rest of Colorado with Colorado-based jazz players. Dream City Jazz in Denver.

Their performance and capabilities were great and set a perfect tone for the end of our ceremony and the cocktail reception.
